  1. Staff Sargeant 1.0 by John Meadows

  3. Staff Sargeant is a simple Windows utility with a single 
  4. purpose; the printing of blank music paper on either letter 
  5. size (8.5" x 11") or legal size (8.5" x 14) paper.

  7. Installation
  8.  
  9. To install Staff Sargeant, first make sure that the Visual 
  10. Basic 3.0 runtime module Vbrun300.dll is in your Windows 
  11. directory. This file is available on most BBS's, often under 
  12. the name VRBUN300.ZIP.
  13.  
  14. Copy the program file staff.exe to the directory of your 
  15. choice, and use the File, New command to install Staff Sargeant 
  16. into the Program Manager Group of your choice.
  17.  
  18. Usage
  19.  
  20. Staff Sargeant is simple to use; you are given the choice of 
  21. paper size, and style of output. Selecting the "Letter Size" 
  22. option will result in output of letter size music paper with 10 
  23. staves. Selecting "Letter Size/Compressed" results in output of 
  24. letter size music paper with 13 staves.  Selecting "Legal size" 
  25. results in output of legal size music paper with 12 staves; 
  26. "Legal Size/Compressed" results in 18 staves.

  28. The compressed staves are of course smaller than the normal 
  29. style. Which you use is a matter of personal preference.

  31. The "number of pages" box is where you indicate how many copies 
  32. you wish to print. The program starts up with a value of 1.

  34. Make sure that your printer is online, with the proper paper 
  35. size and portrait orientation set. This version of Staff 
  36. Sargeant is not capable of altering these settings from within 
  37. the program. (See future goals below).

  39. Click on the "Print" Button with your mouse, or press Alt-P to 
  40. begin the printing process.

  42. When you are done, click on the Exit Button, or press Alt-E to 
  43. exit.

  47. No warranty of any kind is extended with this program; use it 
  48. at your own risk.

  50. This program is freeware; no fee of any kind is involved in its 
  51. use. If you like it, give it to your friends. (If you don't 
  52. like it, give it to your enemies.)

  54. This program may not be sold.

  56. This program was developed with Visual Basic 3.0 running under 
  57. Windows 3.1. It has not been tested with either Windows 3.0 or 
  58. O/S 2.0 or 2.1, so I don't know if it will run in these cases.

  60. Future Goals

  62. Staff Sargeant is my first foray into Visual Basic Programming, 
  63. and is admittedly a rather spartan program at this stage. As I 
  64. learn more, I will add more features. Some features I'm working 
  65. on include:

  67. More configurability (i.e. space between staves, etc.)
  68.  
  69. Ability to set printer parameters (i.e. choice of printer, 
  70. orientation, paper size, etc.) from within the program.
  71.  
  72. Ability to preprint clefs, braces, etc. for various types of 
  73. music (i.e. piano, organ, novello, etc.)
  74.  
  75. Ability to print Tabulature
  76.  
  77. If you have any thoughts on what else should be included, or 
  78. find bugs or other problems with Staff Sargeant,please let me know;
